WiMAX Femtocell System Architecture

So what does it take to build a WiMAX Femtocell solution?

WiMAX Femtocell can be visualized as a scaled down version of WiMAX macro-cell solution. In addition to the capabilities of a WiMAX macro-cell, other required features of a WiMAX Femtocell are the following:

• Spectrum: WFAP operates over licensed spectrum using standard WiMAX wireless air interface and protocol.

• Form factor: WFAP can be standalone (similar to WiFi access points) or integrated with DSL or cable modems.

• Transport: WFAP uses transport network of subscribers’ DSL, FTTH or cable-based broadband connection.

• User Capacity: Since WFAP is deployed inside a building; a WFAP needs to support at least 5-6 subscribers.

• Power Output: With a range of roughly 10 meters, power output should be kept very low, no more than a 2.4 GHz WiFi product.

• Deployment Support: Operating in a licensed spectrum a WFAP may face interference from neighboring base stations (femto or macro). Therefore, a WFAP should have the capabilities to automatically adjust to minimize the interference.

• Local Breakout: A WFAP should optionally support the capability to route incoming or outgoing traffic directly to the destination through the Internet Service Provider (ISP) network. This approach will bypass the WiMAX service provider network, thus offloading WiMAX service provider network and reducing the cost of service to the subscriber.

• Performance: A Femtocell solution should fit as per the WiMAX network architecture defined by the WiMAX forum. The deployment should not limit the number of WFAPs that are able to connect with a designated ASN Gateway unless operator specified. A network deployment should allow different ISPs to connect WFAP with ASN Gateway in the core network.

• Hand-over: A Femtocell solution should allow handovers between WFAP and WiMAX macro cells or with other adjacent WFAPs.

• Security: A Femtocell solution should use a secure channel of communication (for both control plane and data plane) with ASN Gateways in the core network. The core network must authenticate and authorize a WFAP before it starts offering services to MS/SS in its coverage area. A WFAP may authenticate the ASN Gateway with which it gets connected. A WFAP should keep its air interface disabled unless it is authenticated and authorized to start communication with the ASN Gateway in the core network. A Femtocell may support close subscriber group (CSG) database i.e. a list of subscribers allowed to access the WFAP, and its management.

• Accounting: For providing different rate plans to subscribers accessing services through WFAP, a WFAP needs to make sure that it is recognized by the core network.

• Location Information: A WFAP should support location identification procedures with the core network. Location information can then be used for emergency services or location based services.

• Air Interface: A WFAP should provide at least 10 meters of coverage area in a residential set up without any exclusion zone around it.

• Network Synchronization: A WFAP should support mechanism to synchronize with external network to provide services that require strict air interface co-ordination. Some of the services are soft-handovers, support for idle mode paging, and multicast-broadcast (MCBCS) services.

• Quality of Service: A WFAP should support marking of incoming/outgoing packets with appropriate DSCP code, as configured by a service provider. This would allow support for defined service level agreements (SLAs) when the service is delivered through a WFAP.

• Manageability: A WFAP should implement DSL forum’s defined TR069 protocol to allow an operator to remotely manage a WAFP. It must allow an operator to remotely disable/enable the air interface service.

The WiMAX network architecture for femtocell systems is based on the WiMAX basic network reference model that differentiates the functional and business domains of NAPs from those of the network service providers (NSPs). The NAP is a business entity that provides and manages WiMAX radio access infrastructure, while the NSP is the business entity that manages user subscriptions, and provides IP connectivity and WiMAX services to subscribers according to negotiated service level agreements (SLAs) with one or more NAPs. A NAP is deployed as one or more access service networks (ASNs), which are composed of ASN gateways and BSs, while the NSP includes a home agent, authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA), and other relevant servers and databases.

In a WiMAX network supporting a femtocell, a new business entity called the femto-NSP is introduced, which is responsible for the operation, authentication, and management of WFAPs. The femto-NSP is logically separated from the conventional WiMAX NSPs responsible for MSs’ subscriptions, and it includes femto-AAA and femtocell management/self-organizing network (SON) subsystems.

The femtocell management system is an entity to support operation and maintenance (O&M) features of the WFAP based on TR-069 or DOCSIS standards. Because potentially many femto BSs will be deployed in overlay coverage of macrocell BSs and have to support handover to/from macrocell BSs or neighbor femto BSs, the operating parameters of femto BSs have to be well organized and optimized. Femto BS parameter configuration and network performance, coverage, and capacity optimization can be done in an autonomous fashion by using SON functions. A SON server provides SON functions to measure/analyze performance data, and to fine-tune network attributes in order to achieve optimal performance.

A femto-NAP implements its infrastructure using one or more femto-ASNs; an ASN is defined as a complete set of network functions needed to provide radio access to a WiMAX femtocell subscriber. The reference model for a the femto-ASN is defined based on some changes to the conventional ASN to address specific needs of WFAPs, which typically reside at customer premises, and are operated and managed remotely by a femtocell operator over third party IP broadband connection. The femto-ASN reference model includes a WFAP connected to a femto-GW serving as the ASN-GW, through a new entity called a security gateway (SeGW). The SeGW provides IP Security (IPsec) tunnels for WFAPs, and is responsible for authentication and authorization of the WFAPs. The WFAP is connected to a femto-ASN gateway (femto-ASN GW) and other functional entities in the network through this IPsec tunnel. The management system is connected to WFAP through Rm for remote configuration, and it will also include the SON server function, to be defined in the next releases of the femto architecture.

The femto-ASN GW is an entity that controls WFAPs, and performs bearer plane routing to the CSN and Internet as well as control plane functions similar to ASN-GW providing the link to the connectivity service network (CSN) and other ASNs with mobility and security support in the control plane and IP forwarding. In addition to common functionalities of the ASN-GW, the femto-ASN GW supports femto-specific functionalities such as closed subscriber group (CSG) subscriber admission control, femtocell handover control, WFAP low-duty mode management, and femtocell interference management.

Saya rasa tidak ada orang yang ingin dilahirkan jadi orang jelek karena semua ingin lahir dengan rupa yang baik dan setelah besar tumbuh dan berkembang menjadi orang yang cakep yaitu kalau laki-laki itu ganteng dan kalau perempuan itu cantik. Tapi apa mau dikata kita tidak bisa memilih dan penampilan merupakan anugerah dari Sang Maha Kuasa.

Sebenarnya orang yang memiliki wajah atau penampilan yang relatif jelek itu tidak selalu tidak membawa berkah karena semua ada hikmah atau keunggulan tertentu yang belum tentu bisa diraih oleh orang yang berpenampilan relatif baik. Diantaranya yaitu :

1. Tidak Banyak Gangguan Untuk Mengembangkan Diri
Orang yang berwajah jelek dan biasa saja punya banyak waktu luang untuk pengembangan diri karena tidak banyak gangguan dengan pacaran, dikejar penggemar, digoda lawan jenis, ditawari jadi foto model, kerja part time yang mengumbar kelebihan fisik, dan berbagai gangguan lain akibat keunggulan fisik. Terdapat waktu banyak untuk belajar dan berkarir labih serius untuk mempersiapkan masa depan yang akan dijalani nanti.

2. Tidak Mengalami Patah Hati Yang Serius
Kalau selama remaja tidak memikirkan masalah pacaran maka tidak mungkin ada rasa sakit hati karena diputuskan pacar, dikhianati pacar, rasa cemburu buta, dan lain sebagainya. Paling-paling hanya iri sama orang lain karena jomblo dan cemburu karena lawan jenis yang kita suka mesra dengan orang lain.

3. Mendapat Jodoh Yang Serius Dan Baik
Jika serius menggarap masa depan dan akhirnya mendulang sukses, pintar serta kemapanan maka tidak mungkin jodoh akan datang sendiri karena dari sisi bobot bibit bebet terpenuhi bobot dan bebet. Dengan kondisi sukses maka orang jelek bisa memperbaiki penampilan diri dengan uang yang melimpah sehingga memperbesar mendapat pasangan yang berkualitas baik. Tetapi jangan terlalu mengharap yang high quality karena cukup pandai dan baik saja itu sudah cukup untuk membentuk keluarga yang bahagia. Tidak perlu dapat jodoh yang cakep di fisik saja karena justru bisa menimbulkan masalah jika orang itu tidak memiliki itikad baik dan juga terlalu lugu / polos.

4. Lebih Bisa Menjaga Kesucian (Keperawanan / Keperjakaan)
Orang yang jelek / biasa yang memiliki iman yang kuat kurang dilirik lawan jenis untuk diajak melakukan seks bebas sehingga banyak terhindar dari perbuatan dosa, dari pergaulan bebas yang salah jalan, dari pengaruh ajakan narkoba, rokok, minuman keras, dsb. Setelah dewasa pun akan punya rasa percaya diri dan nilai lebih dari orang yang terjerumus pergaulan sesat. Orang yang jelek atau biasa saja bisa juga terjerumus jika tidak punya iman hanya sebagai orang yang diperalat oleh lawan jenis untuk pemuas nafsu, pemorotan uang, dll. Yang pasti setelah dewasa dan sadar orang jelek / biasa akan lebih menyesal dari yang berpenampilan oke.

5. Punya Banyak Kesempatan Untuk Mencengangkan Orang Lain
Orang yang mukanya biasa ke bawah biasanya kurang diperhitungkan dan dianggap masa depan akan biasa-biasa atau di bawah standard. Namun jika serius menggarap masa depan dan berhasil maka orang yang menganggap rendah kita akan tercengang hebat dan iri. Para lawan jenis pun dari yang acuh bisa berubah menjadi suka karena kepandaian dan kesuksesan yang telah diraih dengan kerja keras hasil banting tulang sendiri.

6. Minim Gangguan Setelah Berkeluarga
Orang yang memiliki muka yang jelek dan biasa umumnya kurang dilirik oleh pihak luar yang dapat menghancurkan koharmonisan rumah tangga yang sedang berjalan. Yang ada mungkin pihak luar yang hanya suka dengan harta yang dimiliki oleh keluarga itu. Dengan begitu bagi orang jelek / biasa yang pandai dan beriman, rintangan hidup semacam itu tidak akan diindahkan.

7. Meminimalisir Berbagai Tindak Kejahatan / Kriminalitas Seksual
Memiliki wajah yang dianggap bagus akan membahayakan kita ketika masih kecil dan remaja yang umumnya memiliki pemikiran yang polos. Ada banyak orang dewasa yang suka memangsa anak di bawah umur serta orang dewasa yang senang menjerumuskan pemuda pemudi abg ke lembah hitam. Memiliki anak yang secara umum dinilai cakep akan lebih membuat kita waswas karena akan lebih aktif dalam menarik rasa suka dari teman sebaya maupun yang lebih tua. Jika tidak diawasi dan dibekali dengan baik, masa depannya bisa hancur berantakan dalam sekejap.

8. Lebih Dihargai Karena Kemampuan Murni & Keimanan
Seseorang yang cerdas / pandai dengan ilmu pengetahuan yang dimiliki serta memiliki keimanan yang baik di sisi agama sehingga memberikan sumbangsih yang besar bagi masyarakat umum akan jauh lebih dihargai oleh orang lain dan juga Tuhan. Berbeda dengan orang yang cakep secara fisik namun otaknya biasa dan perilakunya kurang baik di mata masyarakat. Mungkin orang segan kerena dia cakep tapi di belakang akan dicemoh. Orang jelek yang bodoh akan sangat berbahaya di masa depan, karena akan kalah bersaing dengan orang cakep yang bodoh. Tetapi orang jelek yang cerdas akan bisa memiliki ribuan anak buah yang cakep-cakep.

Greasemonkey is an extension for Mozilla Firefox, an open source Web Browser. Most userscripts are written for Firefox & Greasemonkey (although some work in Opera, Safari and even Internet Explorer).

For this guide I will assume you are using Firefox, if not you should install Firefox first.

Userscripts run via Greasemonkey

Now that you have Firefox, you need to install Greasemonkey. After installation (which requires restarting your browser), you are now ready to install userscripts.

Now clicking on a .user.js link triggers Greasemonkey to pop up the script installation panel. Greasemonkey shows you a list of what sites the script will run on and ask if you want to install the script.

Now loading a web page results in additional code (the userscript) being run.

Showdown

Earlier this year, Nokia Siemens Network reported the following on Virtual MIMO:

Researchers at Nokia Siemens Networks have demonstrated in lab conditions how a virtual Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technique can be used for the uplink in LTE (Long Term Evolution) networks.

Tests at its labs in Munich, Germany, have shown how, using such an SDMA (Space Division Multiple Access) based technique, two standard mobile devices, each with only one physical transmission antenna, can communicate with a base station simultaneously and on the same radio channel.

On the uplink transmission, data rates of 108Mbit/s were achieved, double the usual speed, while the downlink managed 160Mbit/s.

The researchers say that while MIMO on the downlink primarily generates higher peak data rates for the end user, virtual MIMO on the uplink makes it possible for an operator to increase network capacity and better utilize the available spectrum.

Nokia Siemens also said the technique contributes to one of the crucial prerequisites for the success of LTE by reducing power consumption of LTE based devices to "acceptable levels" even when used for very high data-intensive applications and that this should be achieved at "moderate prices."

The researchers say that with virtual MIMO only one power amplifier and transmission antenna is necessary for each device, contributing to reduced production costs and power needs.

In the LTE test bed, developed and built in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications (Heinrich Hertz Institute), two co-operating end-user devices form a virtual MIMO system in which the antenna elements are distributed over the two devices. The two devices can be supplied simultaneously with data over the same frequency band using space division multiplexing.

Multihop relaying technology is a promising solution for future cellular and ad hoc wireless communications systems in order to achieve broader coverage and to mitigate wireless channels impairment without the need to use high power at the transmitter.

Recently, a new concept that is being actively studied in multihop-augmented networks is multiuser cooperativediversity, where several terminals forma kind of coalition to assist each other with the transmission of their messages.

In general, cooperative relaying systems have a source node multicasting a message to a number of cooperative relays, which in turn resend a processed version to the intended destination node. The destination node combines the signal received from the relays, possibly also taking into account the source’s original signal.

Cooperative diversity exploits two fundamentals features of wireless medium: its broadcast nature and its ability to achieve diversity through independent channels.

There are three advantages from this:

(1) Diversity. This occurs because different paths are likely to fade independently. The impact of this is expected to be seen in the physical layer, in the design of a receiver that can exploit this diversity.

(2) Beamforming gain. The use of directed beams should improve the capacity on the individual wireless links.The gains may be particularly significant if space-time coding schemes are used.

(3) Interference mitigation. A protocol that takes advantage of the wireless channel and the antennas and receivers available could achieve a substantial gain in system throughput by optimizing the processing done inthe cooperative relays and in the scheduling of retransmissions by the relays so as to minimize mutual interference and facilitate information transmission by cooperation.

In the past two years, M2M (machine-to-machine) applications have become one of the most talked-about topics in the wireless industry. While M2M apps can be used for many purposes (such as smart homes, smart metering/electricity meter reading, fleet management, mobile workforce, automobile insurance and vending machines) and in many sectors (such as healthcare, agriculture, commercial, industrial, retail and utility), smart metering applications--also known as smart grids--present the biggest growth potential in the M2M market today. With many leading wireless service providers and utility companies jumping on the bandwagon and the growing support from states like Texas and California, M2M applications are set to become very successful in the coming years.

AT&T in March announced a new alternative for electric utility companies looking to provide the benefits of smart grid technology to the residential sector. AT&T and SmartSynch are for the first time providing utilities with a cost-effective solution by combining a new suite of service plans from AT&T designed specifically for machine to machine (M2M) communications with SmartSynch's smart grid solutions already deployed at more than 100 utilities throughout North America.

With this new solution from AT&T and SmartSynch, electric utility companies will now be able to concentrate on efficient electricity delivery rather than being distracted by building, maintaining, expanding and upgrading a communications network. This new solution offers a cost-effective point-to-point configuration model in which each meter communicates directly with the utility over the AT&T wireless network.

Smart grids combine "smart meters", wireless technology, sensors and software so customers and utilities can closely monitor energy use and cut back when the availability of electricity is stretched to its limit. The IP-based smart grid model ultimately helps consumers understand the economics of their consumption patterns so they can make intelligent decisions about their power consumption. The smart grid technology will also help to enhance reliability and energy efficiency, lower power-line losses and provide utilities with the ability to remotely automate service, providing cost-savings for consumers.

How can T-Mobile, the fourth-largest cell phone carrier in the U.S., generate business in the face of dropping net additional subscribers and competition from low-cost cell phone companies? Get into the smart grid. Like AT&T and Verizon, T-Mobile is hoping to leverage its already built-out wireless networks to tap into the coming smart grid boom spurred by the stimulus package. On Thursday, T-Mobile plans to announce that it’s developing a durable SIM card that can be embedded in smart meters (as well as used for other industrial processes), and a new partnership with smart meter technology maker Echelon.

Mobile’s national director of Machine-to-Machine services, John Horn, told us that T-Mobile has been playing in the connected electric meter space for several years, including working with smart meter maker SmartSynch (AT&T has a deal with them, too), and he says the carrier has several utility pilot projects under way in the Pacific, Southwest and Midatlantic regions with an aggregate of “tens of millions” of smart meters. In some of those trials T-Mobile has been testing out its new smart meter SIM card, which is like the SIM card in your regular cell phone, but smaller — 5 by 6 millimeters — more durable and made of silicon, not plastic. Horn says the SIM, which can be connected to any of T-Mobile’s wireless networks, including 3G, can withstand the heat and environmental conditions of being outdoors in a smart meter much better than a standard SIM card.

One of the first smart meter makers to embed the new SIM is Echelon, which is also working with T-Mobile on a smart meter service that will run over T-Mobile’s wireless networks and, according to the companies, is significantly cheaper for utility customers. T-Mobile is just the latest phone company to drop its prices to attract utilities. AT&T and SmartSynch announced a similar deal last week. Horn said of T-Mobile’s smart grid price move: “We’ve broken historical pricing models.”

Network technologies including LTE, mobile WiMAX, WiFi and ZigBee potentially could be used for future smart grid applications. While it is still too soon to tell which technology is likely to become the big winner in this market, mobile WiMAX appears to have an edge over LTE due to mobile WiMAX's time-to-market advantage. Mobile WiMAX also has the advantage of being more reliable and secure than "pure" unlicensed technologies like WiFi. WiMAX can also count on support from leading companies like GE, Intel, Sprint Nextel, Clearwire, Motorola, Samsung and Google, among others.

Most importantly, WiMAX will enable carriers, utility companies and other key players to build open-standards based smart meters. Ultimately, through WiMAX, third parties will be able to develop many applications and devices, helping to reduce cost. With WiMAX chipsets currently running about $36, some observers believe that the cost could become as low as $8 or $6 in the next 18 months.

In the meantime, WiMAX-based smart meters are already available in the U.S. For instance, GE, in association with Intel and Grid Net software, has built one of the first WiMAX-based smart meters. Intel Capital and GE both invested in Grid Net in 2006. Companies competing with GE include companies like Trilliant, Itron, Silver Spring Networks (also one of GE's partners) and Landis & Gyr.

However, over time, LTE could become a valuable option for many companies involved in this space as LTE becomes widely adopted and prices associated with it start to come down. LTE's larger coverage capacity and ability to support a higher number of points should play a key role here. In our opinion, it will also become critical for LTE carriers to offer a decent revenue share with utility companies and other key players.

Although being a short-range technology, ZigBee could also have a role to play in the M2M apps space as several companies have expressed some interest in the technology. In fact, U.S.-based startup Tendril Networks is well positioned to become a pioneer in this space; the company, which teamed up with Itron and Landis & Gyr, has already developed a product called Tendril Residential Energy Ecosystem (TREE), compatible with various ZigBee-based devices to be used for smart grid apps inside homes.

Lastly, if fully secured, WiFi could also become a disruptor. WiFi-based smart grid apps appear to be gaining traction in the U.S. and Europe. For instance, the city of San Jose, in association with Echelon, is currently testing a whole smart streetlight network using WiFi-based smart grids set to be launched this summer. The system may receive federal stimulus money, and if it does the city plans to revamp the entire 65,000-light network, which would help reduce energy costs by 40 percent. That figure is consistent with the performance of two European cities: Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom and Olso in Norway, which have been implemented by Echelon.

But this also leads to a huge opportunity because now Telecoms can extend their reach into the Smart Grid through MTM (machine to machine) applications which will generate a much higher number of network connections. These may have less ARPU (i.e. average revenue per user) but a greater number of actual connections with no need to subsidise devices. Hence, they could be profitable.

A smart grid starts with a 'smart meter' which is capable of two way communications and lets the user and provider manage electricity consumption in a more granular way. If the customer's power consumption can be captured in a granular manner, the provider can offer specials/ discounts to the customer. The added potential of smart grids arises from knowing data trends and also extend power management to other devices. These synergies fit well into LTE and home gateways and this explains with LTE and also explains Verizon's emphasis on Ipv6
The Verizon Itron partnership is an example of such a service and this service will be a part of Verizon's LTE deployment in the 700 MHz band for M2M apps.

Companies are building out the smart grid with various broadband technologies — cellular, WiFi, WiMAX — so why not good ol’ DSL? Smart grid sensor and software maker Current is touting a new smart grid partnership with DSL provider Qwest.

Current largely provides the sensors that monitor different conditions on the electrical network, like voltage and current, as well as the software that processes the sensor information for the utility customer. While Current is mostly focused on the distribution portion of the grid, it can also provide communication gear and sensors for smart meters and in-home gateways, which it is doing for Colorado utility Xcel Energy for its SmartGridCity rollout. Because Current needs to get its information back to the utility, it works with a number of companies that provide that network connection. The latest is Qwest, which Current started partnering with, and is currently working with, for Xcel Energy’s SmartGridCity plan (Qwest provides phone and broadband service in Colorado). The buildout of SmartGridCity is supposed to be completed soon, followed by an assessment of the network’s benefits.

What are the benefits of using DSL? Current’s senior vice president of business solutions, Mae Squier-Dow, says that because DSL is already widely available, using it speeds up the ability to deploy smart grid technology. And because the networks have already been built, she says, the option is more affordable for a utility than building out its own communications network. (Other companies argue that in the long run it’s cheaper to build and own the network). Since DSL is a proven technology, it can help smart grid projects gain access to stimulus funds meant for “shovel-ready” projects, Squier-Dow says.

DSL is also high-speed, so if utilities want to use the networks for more bandwidth-intensive services, they can. And DSL is based on Internet Protocol, so it can more easily connect with other IP-based networks and systems, which are ubiquitous. Ultimately DSL is a standard that’s been used for years, so utilities can be rest assured that the technology is highly reliable.

OFDM and OFDMA: The Difference

I was curious as to why IEEE 802.16d (fixed service) uses Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). IEEE 802.16e (mobile) uses Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA). So, what’s the difference between the two, and why is there a difference?

Lets first look at FDM:

In FDM system, signals from multiple transmitters are transmitted simultaneously (at the same time slot) over multiple frequencies. Each frequency range (sub-carrier) is modulated separately by different data stream and a spacing (guard band) is placed between sub-carriers to avoid signal overlap.

OFDM is sometimes referred to as discrete multi-tone modulation because, instead of a single carrier being modulated, a large number of evenly spaced subcarriers are modulated using some m-ary of QAM. This is a spread-spectrum technique that increases the efficiency of data communications by increasing data throughput because there are more carriers to modulate. In addition, problems with multi-path signal cancellation and spectral interference are greatly reduced by selectively modulating the “clear” carriers or ignoring carriers with high bit-rate errors.

Like FDM, OFDM also uses multiple sub-carriers but the sub-carriers are closely spaced to each other without causing interference, removing guard bands between adjacent sub-carriers. This is possible because the frequencies (sub-carriers) are orthogonal, meaning the peak of one sub-carrier coincides with the null of an adjacent sub-carrier.

In an OFDM system, a very high rate data stream is divided into multiple parallel low rate data streams. Each smaller data stream is then mapped to individual data sub-carrier and modulated using some sorts of PSK (Phase Shift Keying) or QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation). i.e. BPSK, QPSK, 16-QAM, 64-QAM.

OFDM needs less bandwidth than FDM to carry the same amount of information which translates to higher spectral efficiency. Besides a high spectral efficiency, an OFDM system such as WiMAX is more resilient in NLOS environment. It can efficiently overcome interference and frequency-selective fading caused by multipath because equalizing is done on a subset of sub-carriers instead of a single broader carrier. The effect of ISI (Inter Symbol Interference) is suppressed by virtue of a longer symbol period of the parallel OFDM sub-carriers than a single carrier system and the use of a cyclic prefix (CP).

Using subchannelization, within the same time slot a Mobile WiMAX Base Station (BS) can allocate more transmit power to user devices (SSs) with lower SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio), and less power to user devices with higher SNR. Subchannelization also enables the BS to allocate higher power to sub-channels assigned to indoor SSs resulting in better in-building coverage.

Subchannelization in the uplink can save a user device transmit power because it can concentrate power only on certain sub-channel(s) allocated to it. This power-saving feature is particularly useful for battery-powered user devices, the likely case in Mobile WiMAX.

The WiMAX forum established that, initially, OFDM-256 will be used for fixed-service 802.16d (2004). It is referred to as the OFDM 256 FFT Mode, which means there are 256 subcarriers available for use in a single channel. Multiple access on one channel is accomplished using TDMA. Alternatively, FDMA may be used.

On the other hand, OFDMA 128/512/1024/2048 FFT Modes have been proposed for IEEE 802.16e (mobile service). OFDMA 1024 FFT matches that of Korea’s WiBRO. OFDM 256 also is supported for compatibility with IEEE 802.16d (fixed, 2004).

We are in East Timor between 1-5 June 2009. We welcome the friends from the Ministry of Infrastructure East Timor an institution that is responsible for telecommunications, roads and energy. Friends who welcomed us is Mr. Paulo Dacosta, Mr. Hilman grown and two female staff. Mr Paulo Dacosta , which is one of the managers in the Ministry of Infrastructure. Believe it or not, it’s by selling text links on your blog. Yup, you heard me right — people will pay you to put links on your site.

Why would people buy links from my blog?

That’s a very good question and there’s several reasons. The most popular one being it helps their site rank higher in search engines like Google and Yahoo. Essentially, the more backlinks you have pointing to your website, the more important your site is (in Google’s eyes).

There are many other factors involved and I could write an entire article about it but we’re going to stay on track. Another reason is because buying links from another site drives additional traffic to their site but this is seen more as a bonus since 99% of people who buy links do so for the backlink value.

That’s great and all but how do I get started?

You could easily build your own advertising page and tell visitors “Text links for sale” but you most likely won’t make any sales (unless you’ve got a really popular site with lots of traffic already). So instead, let’s leave the sales, marketing, and invoicing of your links to a 3rd party who’s already established in this space.

I use (have been for a few years now) and recommend Text Link Ads. They are a well established link buying and selling company which means you don’t need to do anything except add your listing, set a price, and approve new links.

Personally I like selling links through TLA better than Google AdSense because it’s guaranteed monthly revenue. Google AdSense is CPC which means you only get paid when someone clicks on your ad. Using Text Link Ads, you get paid just for letting someone put a link on your site. You set the price, they buy the link, you get paid. It’s that simple. I make several hundred dollars a month from different niche blogs just by selling links using TLA.

Step #1 - Sign up for Text Link Ads

This is the first step for any new advertising program and usually the hardest. TLA carefully selects which sites can be added to their network so if your blog is brand new, then you should wait at least 6 months before applying. If decide to apply anyways and get denied, I’d send them an email and ask to be manually added.

Their automatic approval system runs some basic calculations on your site (blog age, page rank, popularity, etc) which determine whether you’ll be approved. I’ve actually been rejected for a couple of my blogs but when I emailed them, they manually approved them. Sign up for Text Link Ads and start selling links today!

Step #2 - Add your Listing to their Marketplace

Assuming you’ve been approved, you can now login and setup your site. This is where the power of TLA comes into play. They have a virtual marketplace where you list your site and hundreds of visitors (if not thousands) a day have a chance to see your site.

You’ll enter your site title, a brief description, select a category where your blog belongs, how many ad spots you have available (Blogger limits you to only 5 per link widget but you can have two widgets for a total of 10 links), etc. The price is determined by TLA but again, it’s negotiable. I’ve emailed them asking to raise the price on at least two of my blogs and they did it no problem.

Once you’ve added it, your listing will look something like the above screenshot. This is what anyone visiting the TLA marketplace will be able to see.

Step #3 - Installing the TLA Code onto your Blog

This may sound intimidating especially if you’re not comfortable editing template code but it’s simple. Text Link Ads has a wizard script that walks you through the entire process. The only part you need to do is create a new page element on your blog (you must be using the new xml Blogger templates to do this).

Here are the two steps you need to complete within your TLA account before actually going into your Blogger template page elements.

Now that you’ve got the code, you can just follow the instructions that TLA provides about plugging this into your Blogger template. Once TLA verifies that the Ad Code you installed is setup properly, your listing will show up in their marketplace. Then it’s only a matter of time before you make your first text link sale.

Don’t get frustrated because it might take a few months before that “You’ve got new links to approve” email comes from TLA. You need to think of this as a long-term investment because once someone buys a link, they’ll want it for several months.

If you had always insisted on using a debit card the entire time he went through high school and college. I never understood his obsession of avoiding a credit charge. Many times that we would go places and he couldn’t use the debit cards because the company only accepted credit charges.

Have you ever tried to insert javascript ad code directly into your Blogger Template and it just wouldn’t work? Ok, everyone in the room can put their hands down now. This has always been a huge problem for blog authors using Google Blogger looking to monetize their site since almost all ad code contains javascript.

So why is this so darn difficult to do? The problem in the past was that Blogger users wanted more control over where and how frequently their block of ad code (usually AdSense) appeared. The Blogger Team listened to their customers and created an easy to use feature that allows you to setup AdSense in your individual posts with a simple checkbox selection.

Typical Blogger Error Messages

That’s great for most people but the places where you can insert widgets are rather limited and not as flexible as you’d like. So what if you want to put AdSense, AdBrite, Chitika or any other sort of javascript-related code elsewhere on your blog without having to use a widget? The answer in the past would be, “It’s just not easy”.

You would paste the Google AdSense, AdBrite, Chitika or any other javascript ad code into your xml Blogger template only do get an error like:

“Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly. XML error message: The processing instruction target matching “[xX][mM][lL]” is not allowed.”

or another really cryptic error message like:

“Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly. XML error message: The content of elements must consist of well-formed character data or markup.“.

In fact, more recently the Blogger xml parser seems to allow javascript code in your template without displaying an error message at all. You think all is well only to discover when you view your blog that nothing actually gets displayed. Grrr.

Using the Blogger Ad Code Converter

So how can I get around this and easily use ad code or any javascript inside my xml Blogger template? Introducing, the Blogger Ad Code Converter by eBlog Templates. This simple tool will take any block of javascript or html code and replace the characters that Google Blogger ignores with the correct ones. Here’s a real life example. Say I want to put a Google AdSense 468 x 60 banner ad into the header of my blog but there’s no widget to use. You’d have to manually go into AdSense and create a new ad unit to get the code. Here’s the result:

Now if you just pasted that ad unit code directly into your Blogger header you’d get an error or it just wouldn’t work. Most people would think Blogger was broken or wonder if it’s something they did when in fact it’s neither. After you’ve converted your ad code, paste it into your template and it should now work. Obviously before you make any changes to your Blogger template, it’s a good idea to back it up. You never know when you might make a mistake or revert to a previous version. Once you’ve done that, give the Blogger Ad Code Converter a try for free!

What Other Code Can it Convert?

Actually this tool is quite powerful and can be used for encoding any HTML or javascript into XHTML entities. Some popular javascript ad codes that are converted are AdSense, Text Link Ads, AdBrite, LinkWorth, Chitika, Amazon, and more. Another good use is if you need to post a large block of HTML or javascript code into your blog post you can just use this tool.

Are you tired of getting a ton of spam everyday? I am too but unfortunately there is no solution to eliminate it 100% but there are smart ways to avoid and reduce spam. The method I’m going to talk about is aimed at bloggers and how they can easily implement a preventative measure to reduce the amount and chances of spam being sent to them.

With the popularity and ease of setting up a blog, the number of people blogging increases daily. This is great but one main problem is most of these people aren’t usually educated in proper techniques such as spam prevention.

Did you know that putting your email address anywhere on your blog or website is an open invitation for new spam? Yes, you heard me right. Little do you know that trying to be nice and provide a method for your readers to contact you only causes you more harm than good.

Let me give you an example. The usual way to include your email address on your blog is to use the mailto: tag. This is the case if you use Blogger and any other blogging platform. Unfortunately for you, spam harvesters use “web spiders” to troll the internet and look for email address links on websites and blogs. When they come across your site they will look at the html code and grab your address.

Prevent Spam Harvesters From Getting Your Email Address

The best way to beat spam bots as well as giving your readers a way to contact you is to use a contact submission form. That way your email address is never displayed and a script handles the entire mailing process. This is a great option if you use WordPress but for people using Blogger, it’s not an option.

Here’s some other sites that are great but you have to buy the images. In most cases it’s actually worth spending a few dollars just to get a perfect header image for your site. Remember, your blog is a representation of you so it’s a good idea to dress it up nicely

Fotolia- stock image site since you can find some great unique blog header images for as little as $1. Easy sign up process and you buy credits once you setup your account.
Stockexspert- Here’s another good one if you can’t find anything you like on Fotolia. Same plan since you pay per image starting at $1.
Shutterstock- This site is different than others since you pay on monthly basis and can download up to 750 images over the course of 30 days. It’s great if you just need a ton of images in a short period. Sign up for one month, download your 750 max, and then cancel your account.
Photo Library (also known as Index Stock) - It’s kind of hard to navigate their site but the images aren’t watermarked meaning you can right click and save them.
Getty Images- This is truely the cream of the crop when it comes to high quality images. These images would be overkill for your personal blog but it’s still a beautiful site to check out.
Photos.com- Another great high-end photo download site. You pay $99 per month but can download as many photos as you want. This is a great package for small businesses or corporations looking for stock photos for their website.
Creastock- They offer royalty free high quality stock photos and images but their price point is a little higher than I prefer. This site is more for the true professional looking for really high quality art for their site.

Top Tip #1:

Having a problem making your desktop icons stay exactly where you put them?

When you temporarily change your desktop to a lower resolution—for example whilst using Safe mode, Windows can wreak havoc with your careful positioning of desktop icons.

Right click your desktop click arrange icons and uncheck auto arrange. You can now drag & drop them wherever you want them. Note that if you start your computer in SAFE mode you will have to rearange them again.

Top Tip #2:

Accidentally moved your taskbar and want it back where it was?

Point your mouse to a 'blank' area inside the taskbar, THEN hold down your left mouse button, and DRAG it down where you want it to go. It may take a couple of tries to get it over.

Top Tip #3:

Feel like changing your Start Menu?

(1) Right click a blank spot on the Start Menu.
(2) Select Properties
(3) Select Customize
(4) Select the Advanced tab.

Most of those preset items which don't have the option to check or uncheck will be there. For each item listed you'll have the option to Display as link or Display as menu or Don't display this item. (5) Under the Startup tab take the checkmark out of "Critical Updates"
(6) Click Apply
(7) Click OK
(8) Restart your computer.

Select Start, Programs, Accessories, Accessibility, Narrator. Or press the Windows key plus the letter "U" to open the Utility Manager. Microsoft Narrator, an accessibility option designed to assist readers who are blind or have impaired vision, starts automatically.

Once you've read through the intro screen (or let the Narrator do it), click OK and you'll see a dialog box of Narrator options. Assuming you want to leave Narrator running, select the desired options, then minimize its dialog box. And if you've opened the Utility Manager, feel free to close it.

To turn Narrator off, click the Exit button or right-click its taskbar item and select Close.
